めん馬鹿 Menbaka Fire Ramen has opened its first international outlet at Cineleisure Orchard.
Doesn't the name sound familiar, like a swear word in Japanese. That's right, baka (馬鹿) means 'idiot', and menbaka (めん馬鹿) literally means 'crazy about noodles'. The craziness is none other than its signature performance of pouring burning hot roasted green onion oil over the ramen bowls, producing pillars of flame right in front of the diners' eyes.

With the Burpple deal, we ordered the Double Dragon Fire Set at only $19.90, which includes:
- 226 Years Shoyu Recipe Fire Ramen (×1)
- Shiitake Mushroom Fire Ramen (×1)
- Hard Boil Egg (×2)
- Ocha (×2)
The Performance
In the restaurant, you'll constantly be notified (when the Japanese traditional shamisen music is being played) when diners are ready to watch the performance at the counter seat, almost everyone will turn around and witness the performance you've probably never seen elsewhere, followed by a round of applause at the end of it.It's our turn and the waiter would ask for our phone where they would place onto a stick hung at an overhead cabinet for video recording. We're not allowed to take photos/videos with our phones/cameras for safety reasons. The waiters gave us an apron each and showed us a set of instructions on a piece of laminated A4 paper:
- Don't touch your ramen bowl. Please wait for a little bit.
- Don't leave your seat.
- Don't run away. Because your seat will be oily then.
- Don't scream. Don't make a fuss.
- Don't take of your apron until you finish eating.
No joke, I think I moved back a little due to the immense heat. In fact, while other diners were watching the performance at the counter seat, we already could feel the heat from where we're seated.
226 Years Shoyu Recipe Fire Ramen
Thanks to the performance, we get to enjoy the smoky flavor of the ramen broth.
