Sakura International Buffet Restaurant @ SAFRA Jurong

SAFRA Jurong
My company, Cameron runs this Engage To Excel event quarterly to ensure that every department commits to teamwork through team bonding activities.

I joined the Quality Control department since July 2015 and I was kinda assigned to organize one for this last quarter. To be honest I suck at organizing events and so the best option for me is to go for lunch/dinner as a group and that's it.

We did gather opinion from the shop to get feedback and well, having dinner at Sakura International Buffet has the highest vote so we went ahead for that.

It's $42.80 (incl. GST) per adult for dinner on a weekend because we went on Sunday so that more shop floor employees are able to make it. You can find out their rates at the Suki Group website.

It's located at the north corner of the club, but that's not the main entrance.

Turn left after passing the main lobby and you'll find the main entrance

Ma Maison @ Bugis Junction

Ma Maison
Located at a humble corner in Bugis Junction, Ma Maison マ・メゾン (lit. "My Home" in French) serves Japanese fusion cuisine.

The classy atmosphere owing to its dimly lit ambience is something one wouldn't expect from the exterior.

I wouldn't say this is some affordable restaurant, but the food quality is definitely above average.
And if you don't mind paying for the environment, it's surely worth your visit.

For ladies, you get 20% off ala carte items for on Monday nights (their Ladies Night).

"SUKIYAKI" Omu-Rice 洋風すき焼きとろとろオムライス @ $18.80++
Omu-Rice with Braised Sliced Beef and Vegetables
This was May's order, and I couldn't help but to kope the sauce... ❤❤

Beef Stroganoff Butter Rice オムライスビーフストロガノフソース @ $16.80++
Butter rice wrapped in omelet with sliced beef and brown sauce
If you enjoy eating steak, the sauce delivers the standard.
And the rice was fantastic, it was literally fragrant.

Your key to success...... no.
Bring this key to the cashier and pay for your food. LOL~

Kinsa Sushi @ Jubilee Square

It's 14th of February, ya 14th of February, Japanese food favors Tina, and we humbly had dinner at Kinsa Sushi with our purchased groupons.

It's my second time visiting this 'remote area' after Djitsun Mall, while Kinsa Sushi is located in Jubilee Square.

I checked out their separate menu, I wondered, am I to say that it's authentic or 'exotic', as I was pretty much dumbfounded by what are shown on that menu - neither did they look familiar to me nor look savory. And so we stuck to their main menu.

Edamame @ $4.80

Shake (Salmon) @ $1.80, Hotate (Scallop) @ $1.80, Amaebi (Sweet Shrimp) @ $3.80, Unagi (Eel) @ $3.80

Gyu Enoki Maki @ $3.80, Chicken Wing with Teriyaki Sauce @ $2.80

Gyu Cheese Maki Age (Deep Fried Rolled Beef and Cheese) @ $6.80
This is good.

Katsudon @ $12.80

Soft Shell Crab Roll @ $7.80

Thinking that the restaurant would be rather empty on Valentine's Day, I was totally wrong.

*UPDATE: The outlet at Ang Mo Kio has been closed down.

Oishii Halal Buffet @ Jalan Masjid

Oishii Halal Buffet
Having bought the deal from deal.com.sg (thanks to Boon Kiat), each $12 voucher entitles everyone with their so-called "Unlimited Authentic Shabu Shabu + Ala Carte Buffet At Oishii Japanese Restaurant - Over 40 Items Including Beef, Chicken, Prawns, Squids, Mussel, Lalas & Sliced Fresh Fish With Tomyam, Ramen, Chicken Or Miso Soup Base".

Jason drove the Bukit Panjang-rians and it too us a while to find a suitable parking at the Kembangan Plaza basement car park along that narrow Jalan Masjid. It didn't seem to us that there's any Japanese-looking restaurant along that district.

Walking to the junction, staring at the restaurant sign, for a jiffy we thought we came to the wrong place.
Look at the picture on the right, it's really self-explanatory.
There's no way anyone could associate that with the image we had in our mind. Yes, and it's halal, so forget about pork.

Well, the interior does look different from the exterior, with a conveyor belt that is not serving sushi but raw ingredients that you throw into the steamboat. Well done!

Drinks are obviously made from syrup and taste awful.

There were 7 of us and we chose the ramen soup base which was pretty tasty probably due to MSG. Whatever we're entitled to were those ingredients which are to be cooked in the pot, plus cabbages and noodles.

And where's our shabu-shabu? LOL... what about shabby-shabby?

Describing the eating experience in Oishii Halal Buffet as 'exotic' is courteous. Otherwise, 'horrible'.
Good luck to the next batch of customers who have bought the deals but have yet to visit.
* Thumbs down *

Maccha House 抹茶館 @ Orchard Central

Traditional Maccha
Ok it went like this. May and I went to The Japanese Cultural Society (near Bugis) to register to sit for JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) this coming July. Supposed to have dinner with Boon Kiat, Mei Ling and Shermin at Somerset's Sushi Express, I invited May along and we arrived really late, felt sorry for making the 3 of them queue for so long (well, there was already a queue in front of the restaurant anyway :D).

Maccha House 抹茶館 is where we had our post dinner desserts, at Orchard Central which is a few steps away from 313 @ Somerset. Didn't know there's such a cozy place at Orchard, and I love the green seats which blend so well with the theme.

Plenty of seats, a quiet, humble, cool and obscure chit chat place

Maccha Latte @ $4.40 Maccha Latte Float @ $5.40

Maccha Latte with Brown Sugar Syrup @ $5.40 Maccha Chocolate Latte @ $5.40

Traditional Maccha @ $3.90

This traditional thingy was ordered by Boon Kiat, and having had a little knowledge about the Japanese tea ceremony, May and I actually shared with him how the tea is prepared and consumed (eg. placing the bowl on the left palm and turning the bowl twice in the clockwise direction).

I actually remember watching one of the episodes of 日本人の知らない日本語 (Nihonjin no shiranai Nihongo) (2010) which features the Japanese tea ceremony. It's a very awesome educational comedy drama where you'll be watching a number of foreign Japanese language learners speaking fluent Japanese.

You'll find this place a great chilling tea house after a long walk along Orchard Road.
