Stroff.com - Internship & Part Time Jobs in Singapore

I remember I struggled for a while just to get a Singapore internship offer during vacation when I was in NUS back then it was called VIP (Vacation Internship Programme).

It's no big deal actually, it doesn't mean you'll be jobless graduating without an internship experience.

But an internship with a company may offer you with:
  • Experience, Expectation & Exposure (3 x's)
  • Sounds like something your parents or even grandparents would tell you. Some enjoy working than studying and some enjoy the other way round.
You may be an elite student who excels in studies, but the working world may seem grey to you, and it really might not be what you've been expecting - studying is different from working, moreover, whatever you've learnt may not fully utilized at your workplace, the only place where you can utilize is the exam hall.
Instead of getting a culture shock upon graduation, it's pretty essential that you're introduced to the working environment and job nature.
  • Money
  • Let's be realistic, given a thousand benefits an internship could offer but will you work for free? 'No way Jose', you must be thinking, 'I might as well go farming'.
The pay is definitely not a wonderful figure as well though (unless you're one of those fortunate interns who receives the ordinary employee's pay), but take that as an encouragement, motivation and self-realization of how hard earning money is.
Without having listed down many points, one should know that the first point results in different benefits, like a more attractive resume and interpersonal skills.
Being an intern is also a mentally healthier way to kill your long school vacation than being a couch potato.

I admit, that I hated my internship, the job scope, and how I think I was kind of exploited, you can read more about my terrible internship experience.

Just like normal job hunting, finding an internship doesn't seem to be a piece of cake anymore in this ever-competitive society.

Baden Restaurant & Pub @ Holland Village

Baden Restaurant & Pub
T.G.I.F. It's been almost half a year since the last meetup at Orchard Gateway with my Lund University exchange buddies.

Yiting suggested Baden Restaurant & Pub located at Holland Village as she heard good reviews from her boyfriend.

I would say that, since it's a German restaurant, the name Baden could be derived from the old German territory.

It brought us back to having cheap and delicious pork knuckles, sausages and beer in Berlin and Munich 3 years ago.

I managed to get a table of 4 by walking in, and it seemed to be the last isolated table available, it was 7pm. As reservation is not available, you might want to reach earlier to get a place before the restaurant is full.

Erdinger Weißbiers (500ml) @ $16
One-For-One during Happy Hours (ends at 9pm)
I was wondering if I haven't been eating out for too long, I find the food and drinks ridiculously expensive. Thankfully we managed to whop the one-for-one Erdinger draft beer before it was too late.

Pork knuckle was not bad, but they can definitely cook better sausages. The standard is still far from Germany.

I enjoyed the reminiscence, the food however... I would give a thumbs up if they were more affordable.

Pardon the quality of the photos, they are all taken by my iPhone 6 because I forgot to bring my camera.

Hühnerflügel @ $10
Deep fried chicken wings with thai chili sauce

Schweinshaxe @ $36
Baden's famous pork knuckle with crispy whole potato and sauerkraut

Würstplatte - fünf @ $35
Platter of 5 different types of sausages

Kalmarkugel @ $7
Cuttlefish balls with thai chili sauce

Siem Reap, Cambodia

10 (Fri) - 13 (Mon) Apr 2015

Lodging: Neth Socheata Hotel

It's been quite some time ago when we voiced our suggestions of traveling to Cambodia and visiting the grand Angkor Wat. Despite possessing the knowledge of Cambodia being warmer in April, still, the final decision was made late in March, when we finally get our flight tickets booked (7 of us).

It was Malaysia Airlines, the cheaper option with trade off of having one transit per trip, free food and luggage check in, we just need to pray harder.

Like Thailand, Cambodia (GMT+7) is an hour behind us (GMT+8). I only managed to recall and reset my camera's timezone on day 2.

Ta Prohm
Our flight details
10 Apr 2015 (Fri)
Changi Airport Terminal 2 - KLIA
Flight No: MH604
9:50AM - 10:50AM
KLIA - Siem Reap International Airport
Flight No: MH764
12:10AM - 1:15PM

13 Apr 2015 (Mon)
Siem Reap International Airport - KLIA
Flight No: MH765
2:15PM - 5:25PM
KLIA - Changi Airport Terminal 2
Flight No: MH607
7:25PM - 8:25PM

Average fare per person: S$250.90 (we booked through CheapTickets.sg and managed to get a $20 discount by paying via DBS/POSB credit card)

Day 1

First thing you need to know is, US dollar is transacted in Cambodia, or at least in Siem Reap. Cambodian riel is used for any value lower than US$1 (1,000 riels = US$0.25).

Get their local SIM card at $3 each, it comes with data and local calls for 5 days. This is definitely a life saver.
Hand them your phone and they'll install and activate the SIM card for you.

We were welcomed by the staffs from our hotel and 2 tuk-tuks were deployed to pick us up from the airport so we were able to unload our luggage at the hotel before taking the first step into our wondrous journey in Siem Reap.

Kinsa Sushi @ Jubilee Square

It's 14th of February, ya 14th of February, Japanese food favors Tina, and we humbly had dinner at Kinsa Sushi with our purchased groupons.

It's my second time visiting this 'remote area' after Djitsun Mall, while Kinsa Sushi is located in Jubilee Square.

I checked out their separate menu, I wondered, am I to say that it's authentic or 'exotic', as I was pretty much dumbfounded by what are shown on that menu - neither did they look familiar to me nor look savory. And so we stuck to their main menu.

Edamame @ $4.80

Shake (Salmon) @ $1.80, Hotate (Scallop) @ $1.80, Amaebi (Sweet Shrimp) @ $3.80, Unagi (Eel) @ $3.80

Gyu Enoki Maki @ $3.80, Chicken Wing with Teriyaki Sauce @ $2.80

Gyu Cheese Maki Age (Deep Fried Rolled Beef and Cheese) @ $6.80
This is good.

Katsudon @ $12.80

Soft Shell Crab Roll @ $7.80

Thinking that the restaurant would be rather empty on Valentine's Day, I was totally wrong.

*UPDATE: The outlet at Ang Mo Kio has been closed down.

Twenty Grammes @ North Bridge Road

Iced Mocha @ $6.50
The moment we stepped into Twenty Grammes, I was overwhelmed by the butterscotch smell, which I so badly wanted to soak in. :P

Prepare yourself to be served by the friendly staff over there. Some of their ice cream flavors are home made.

As the front yard of the cafe wasn't able to accommodate 5 of us, we're ushered to the back yard, where walls have no design but the cement-ish layout, which pretty much looks like nothing but a boom shelter, which is very near to the washrooms. But we're fine as long as we're not separated by different seats.

Christmas deco

Waffles w/ 2 scoops of ice cream @ $12.50
"Triple C" and Butterscotch (my favorite)

Mint Chocolate Cake @ $8.00

English Breakfast Tea @ $4.90
Obviously May spammed too much milk
