Sparkz 2013 Finale @ NUS

In my previous blog entry Sparkz Audition @ NUS I wrote about our audition in the annual NUS talent show Sparkz and an update of us making it to the final.

THreshold
And here we are today for the final, competing with other 9 finalists.

We performed Titanium, but there's a history behind the song selection process. We initially planned to do a mash up of One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful and The Cab's La La. Coincidentally they're of the same key although we did both one key lower.

Well, and this changed our decision of song choice which we had less than a week left to practice - our former mash up idea didn't seem to be favored by the judges, after meeting them during the mentoring session one week right before the finale. And so our hard work of practicing the mash up songs was kinda fruitless, and we're left with less than a week.

As we came across a Titanium cover on YouTube, we decided to follow the pop rock style of the song. I really like pop rock, and the arrangement blends together with the music so well, it's somewhere I will immerse in.

In the final, there are prizes for the champion ($1000), 1st runner up ($500) and audience's choice winner ($500). When we listened to the judges' comment on every contestant, we didn't think we stand any chance to win this competition.

There was an SMS voting going on at the end of the finale which they only opened for 3 minutes and whichever contestant has the highest number of unique votes wins the audience's choice winner award.

Before they announced the champion and the 1st runner up, they announced the top 5 contestants, which I really don't understand why they did that, because soon they will the top 2, perhaps they want to disappoint the rest of the 5 contestants, and we are one of them. We're just loaded with disappointment. And as soon as they announced the audience's choice award winner, "THreahold", I literally uttered "HUH?!". It was just an epic stunning moment, and we're more than delighted to 'hopped' to the front of the stage and received the award.

It was really fruitful for me that we actually won something with our effort and time. I told my band members that they can have the money and I take the fame. It's a joke, but, it's another moment of glory I had with THreshold, another memorable event in my final semester.
